2018 Short Lists

Yesterday the Academy announced short lists of potential nominees for nine different categories including Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, Foreign Language Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Original Song, Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, and Visual Effects.

One note on the links connected with each film below. Any links on the names of the films themselves are links to trailers, usually on YouTube. If there are places where you can view the film in its entirety, I have included a separate link with the name of the source, i.e. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Vimeo, etc.

Documentary Feature

Fifteen films have been shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature. They include:

• The Distant Barking of Dogs
• Free Solo
• Hale County This Morning, This Evening

• Minding the Gap (Hulu)

Documentary Short Subject

One hundred four films originally qualified in this category of which ten will be on the short list for nomination. They include:

Foreign Language Film

Of the 87 submitted films, nine have been selected for the Best Foreign Language Film shortlist. They are:

• Capernaum, Lebanon

The seven films under consideration for three nomination spots in this category are:

Fifteen scores (out of 156 eligible) will be considered for nomination in this category. They include:
