The Oscar nominations were officially announced this morning and to get things started, I've put up a list of polls below where you can vote for your choice for each category.

The polls are listed in the order the categories were handed out at last year's Oscar ceremony and each category has the nominated films listed in alphabetical order to try and eliminate any bias on my part.

Find the full list of nominations on the Oscar.com website and look for summaries of each category coming soon!

Best Supporting Actor

Picture
There is a strong crop of actors up for the Best Supporting Actor award this year. Included in the field are the two most recent winners in this category Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, 2016) and Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, 2017) along with three newcomers in Driver, Elliott, and Grant.

Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Picture
This is an interesting category this year with two films relying very heavily on prostheic makeup applications (Border & Vice).

Best Costume Design

Picture
Black Panther landed a nomination here with the awesome costumes of Wakanda while all four other films are period pieces of one sort or another.

Best Documentary Feature

Picture
While I was a bit surprised that Won't You Be My Neighbor didn't receive a nomination in this category, I think the films listed here are strong.

Best Sound Editing

Picture
I love that a film that has very little dialog landed a nomination for Best Sound Editing. Sometimes it's just as much about what you leave out as what you put in.

Best Sound Mixing

Picture
This is an interesting sound mixing list this year with some films that have plenty going on from a sound standpoint including two films based around musicians and music.

Best Production Design

Picture
There are some great films here that have incredible design elements. I can't wait to see who takes home the Oscar.

Best Foreign Language Film

Picture
While I've mentioned that I think it's a runaway for Roma in this category, I look forward to seeing the other films in this category and how they stack up with the front runner.

Best Supporting Actress

Picture
As often happens with the acting categories, there are two actresses from the same film here. It didn't hurt Sam Rockwell last year when he won for Supporting Actor in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri but we will see if the same happens this year.

Best Animated Short Film

Picture
I strongly urge everyone to check out these films if you can. They don't take long to watch, in fact you can watch the full category in under an hour. Look for special showings at art house theaters near you in early February.

Best Animated Feature Film

Picture
I've seen two of these films and loved both of them. I honestly liked Ralph better than Incredibles 2, but think neither one of them has a chance against Spider-Man.

Best Visual Effects

Best Film Editing

Best Documentary Short

Picture
Like the animated shorts above, this is an often overlooked category. It's nice to see some of the unique topics covered in these short documentaries without needing to devote a full evening to watching them.

Best Live Action Short

Picture
What is the most impactful story you can tell in under 40 minutes? These short films look to answer that question and again, they are oven overlooked. Not enough people get to see all of these films and it's truly a shame.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Best Original Screenplay

Best Cinematography

Best Original Score

Best Original Song

Picture
I feel like this one is a runaway based on the airplay of one certain song, but we could all be surprised. There are a number of great songs in the field this year.

Best Director

Picture

Best Actor

Picture
Bale has been running away with the awards throughout the circuit this winter, but it remains to be seen if he can land the biggest prize of all!

Best Actress

Best Picture

Last but not least, it's time to predict who will win the big prize on February 24th. Please select which of the eight nominees for Best Picture you think will win.
