2019 Nominee Watch – October 2nd

We haven't had a mid-week Nominee Watch in a while, and I'm not really sure why this one popped up other than it being a foreign film that doesn't fit in with the regular release schedule here in the United States.

Check out the few new movies coming out this Wednesday.

War
If you've ever wondered what a cross between a Jason Bourne movie, a Mission Impossible movie, and a Fast and the Furious movie would look like it if was made in India, I think you finally have your answer. (If you've never wondered this, then you're like most people aside from the makers of this film perhaps.)

​Did we need a Bollywood version of these films? Probably not. But the influence is crystal clear when you watch the trailer, with some sequences and scenes that look like the are carbon copies of their American predecessors.

​I'm going to admit, I didn't understand 90% of the trailer. Even the bits that were in English were so quick that I didn't put together what was going on. The short version seems to be that two soldiers/special ops guys are going at it, ultimately trying to kill each other in an all out "war." Thus the title.

There are certainly some big action pieces here, but nothing we haven't seen before, and nothing that will probably wow audiences or the Academy any more than what we typically see here in the States on an annual basis.

​I would say look for a nomination for Best International Film, but India's submission has already been made...and it's not this.

• Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl – Japanese anime film about a girl dealing with a chronic illness and the boy who loves her and has a bad heart.
• Roger Waters Us + Them – Concert film featuring performances from the artist. (Special Engagement)
