2018 Nominee Watch – December 12th

This is the first of several mid-week release announcements you'll be seeing here in the month of December. Mary Poppins Returns joins the list next week followed by Holmes & Watson and Vice on Christmas Day.

For now, we have a very special announcement from the man in the red suit. Read on to find out what he has to say.

Once Upon a Deadpool
This is a bit of an odd release, as you can probably guess from the trailer I've included below. If you know anything about the Deadpool films, you know that the title character doesn't hold much back. Strike that, he holds NOTHING back!

This time, Deadpool does hold back a little, but only enough to earn a PG-13 rating from the MPAA. How the filmmakers managed to achieve this for this re-release of Deadpool 2 I'm not sure, but I love how the trailer boxes the film up with a nice reference to The Princess Bride.

If you're looking for my write-up on the original release back in May, check it out. I'm not sure how this re-release figures into the nomination process since it's in the same year as the original release.

• Maine – Young travelers explore their feelings for each other while venturing through the wilderness together. (December 13th)
• Bird Box – Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich star in a science fiction thriller in a post-apocalyptic world where creatures take on the shape of your worst fears when you see them. Think A Quiet Place, but with vision instead of sound. (December 13th) (Netflix)
