The Oscar Project
This week is a focus on comedy and horror, (it seems like there have been a bunch of horror flicks coming out in the past few weeks!) with a little dose of nature thrown in. That being said, I don't see a whole lot in terms of Oscar potential out of this week's releases.
I'm adding trailers to the list of films this week in case you are interested in checking any of them out. Let me know which of these four films you want to see in the comments below.
Although March of the Penguins won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature when it was released, none of the dozen or so releases since then have done much with the Academy. As beautiful at this film looks to be, I do not see if getting any nominations this year.
Reviews: IMDb (6.4/10) Rotten Tomatoes (TBD)
I love Schumer's stand up and watch it whenever I catch it on TV, provided the kids are asleep in bed. I actually haven't taken in any of her film work to this point, but feel like this one could be promising. Will it win any Oscars? Probably not. But it might be a good date night movie if that's what you need this weekend.
Reviews: IMDb (2.4/10) Metacritic (49) Roger Ebert (2.5*) Rotten Tomatoes (35%)
Despite the fun it may be, Super Troopers 2 will not be getting any Oscar nominations.
Reviews: IMDb (6.3/10) Metacritic (43) Rotten Tomatoes (41%)
I don't know much about director Deon Taylor, but I do like Omar Epps as an actor and haven't seen him in any full length features in some time. Again, I don't see any Oscar nominations out of this film, but I could be surprised.
